Kriletown Adventures - Week 25

 Welcome to week twenty five of Kriletown News.  Here is a look into our adventures this week.

Important Dates

  • Friday, February 28 Memorabilia Museum

  • Tuesday, March 4 - Early Release at 1:00

  • Wednesday, March 12 Kriletown visits the book fair at 1:00

  • Friday, March 14 - Field Trip to Kensington Metro Park 9:30-2:30 See below for details.

  • Friday, March 21 - Report Cards sent home

  • Friday, March 21- Last day before spring break

  • Monday, March 24 - Friday, March 28 - No School, Spring Break

  • Monday, March 31 - School resumes

Curriculum

Word Work

This week we started work with r-controlled vowels ar and or. Our heart words this week were pretty, first, nothing, and people. These are words that do not follow traditional spelling rules. Our FANCY vocabulary words were ’brainstorm', ’paleontologist', 'splatter' and ’amplify’. 

Reading

This week we started reading the Itty Bitty Bio series. This is a wonderful nonfiction series about ordinary people who have done extraordinary things!

Math

We have reviewed doubles facts and learned how doubles facts can help us with other math facts. We used the 100's chart to solved addition and subtraction problems and continue telling time to the hour and half hour.

Writer’s Workshop

 Each student has started to write their own Itty Bitty Bio.

Social/Emotional Learning - Life Skills

This week we discussed what it means to be intelligent. We discussed how each one of us in intelligent in our own unique way.

Social Studies/Science

This week we continue to work on my favorite science unit HABITATS! We learned all about the wetlands.

Trailblazer:

Over the next few months we will be meeting ordinary people who have done amazing things. This week we met Simone Biles, Temple Grandin, Ron McNair and Maya Angelou.


School Stuff:

KENSINGTON FIELD TRIP: 

Inside your students Friday Folder is a permission slip for our trip to Kensington. This is a full day outdoor trip. I can not take your child unless I have a signed permission slip. Your student will need to bring a packed lunch INCLUDING a water bottle. If your student will need a school lunch for the trip you MUST indicate it on the form. If you would like to attend the trip you MUST indicate on the form as well. We will be leaving Logan at about 9:30 and returning about 2:30. Be sure you send your child in appropriate clothing for a day spent outdoors. 

End of Day:

If your students end of day plans change you must send me and email by 3:00 the day of or I will proceed with their usual pick up plan. Please do not sent this information verbally through your student.

SNACK DONATIONS

We need March donations please!! Popular items have been cheese its, fruit snacks, z bars, bananas and clementines! You can also look at our Amazon wish list for ideas.

We are also in desperate need of large bottles of hand sanitizer! 

From past newsletters....

Class books

These books will are making their way to each of your homes. When a large manila envelope comes home in your littles backpack please read through the book together and return the next school day. If you would like to leave a book review on a class book that comes home. Please attach a post it note to the large envelope. The littles love to hear what you think of their creations :) 

Computers

 Please be sure to send the computer FULLY charged each day. We will be using them daily. Please also send the charger. I am not supplied a classroom charger.

Kriletown Adventures - Week 22

 Welcome to week twenty two of Kriletown News.  Here is a look into our adventures this week.

  • Friday, February 14-Tuesday, February 18 - No School, Mid-Winter Break

  • Tuesday, March 4 - Early Release - 1:00 Dismissal

Curriculum

Word Work

This week we worked with y making both the i and e sounds at the end of words. We continue to work with adjectives. Our heart words this week were ask, girl, every, soon and both. These are words that do not follow traditional spelling rules. Our FANCY vocabulary words were ’senses', ’prickly', ‘conflict', 'and ’magnify’. 

Reading

This week we met my favorite character Fancy Nancy! We learned all sorts of fancy vocabulary such as stupendous, accessories, incredible and exhausted 

Math

We have begun to celebrate all things 100!! We continue to work with place value, sums of 10, measurement and reading bar graphs.

Writer’s Workshop

We are wrapping up our nonfiction reports. I am SO impressed with your students unique reports.

Social/Emotional Learning - Life Skills

This week we discussed what it means to have gratitude. We had a great discussion about the important things in life to be thankful for.....people who love and care for us, a warm home, plenty of food to eat and a safe school to come to each day.

Social Studies/Science

This week we continue to work on my favorite science unit HABITATS! We learned all about the grasslands and forest. During this unit we will be visiting the grasslands, rainforest, tundra, forest, ocean and freshwater.

Happy Mail Across America:

This week we mailed cards all over the country. We can not wait to see what comes back to us :)

FANCY NANCY DAY February 12th

 If your student chooses to bring in Valentine cards please be sure to send one for each student. Please send your little in fancy clothes for the celebration. These can be over the top fun silly outfits. Google the character Fancy Nancy to get great ideas of how this character celebrates and loves life. 

DALMATIAN DAY February 19th

Please send your student in a creative Dalmatian outfit. The idea of this activity is to encourage your student to be creative!! You do not need to purchase anything. This will be a day of fun to celebrate the 101st day of school!
