Curriculum
Word Work
This week we started work with vowel teams ai, ay, oa and ow. Our heart words this week were very, today, among, and again. These are words that do not follow traditional spelling rules. Our FANCY vocabulary words were ’jealous', ’respect', 'fragrance' and ’sturdy’.
Reading
This week we met several new authors Cynthia Rylant, Asia Citro, Karma Wilson and Arnold Lobel. All have written fantastic series for first graders.
As we begin to read more and more chapter books in first grade your littles have begun to recommend books I do not have in the classroom library. Together we created a wishlist on Amazon if you would like to donate a book or two. All kids recommendations can be found at the top of the wishlist. Kriletown wishlist here.
Math
We have reviewed doubles facts and learned how doubles facts can help us with other math facts. We talked about sides and vertexes of 2D shapes. We learned about fact families.
Writer’s Workshop
We finished up our Itty Bitty Bio's this week.
Social/Emotional Learning - Life Skills
This week we discussed what it means to be patient. MANY of us are having to be patient while waiting for our spring break adventures to begin.
