Kriletown Adventures - Week 28

Welcome to week twenty eight of Kriletown News.  No progress reports or Friday folders this week. Report cards will be sent to you via email on April 1. Here is a look into our adventures this week.

Important Dates

  • Friday, March 21- Last day before spring break

  • Monday, March 24 - Friday, March 28 - No School, Spring Break

  • Monday, March 31- School resumes

  • Tuesday, April 1 - Report cards sent home

Curriculum

Word Work

This week we started work with vowel teams ai, ay, oa and ow. Our heart words this week were very, today, among, and again.  These are words that do not follow traditional spelling rules. Our FANCY vocabulary words were ’jealous', ’respect', 'fragrance' and ’sturdy’. 

Reading

This week we met several new authors Cynthia Rylant, Asia Citro, Karma Wilson and Arnold Lobel. All have written fantastic series for first graders. 

As we begin to read more and more chapter books in first grade your littles have begun to recommend books I do not have in the classroom library. Together we created a wishlist on Amazon if you would like to donate a book or two. All kids recommendations can be found at the top of the wishlist.   Kriletown wishlist here

Math

We have reviewed doubles facts and learned how doubles facts can help us with other math facts. We talked about sides and vertexes of 2D shapes. We learned about fact families. 

Writer’s Workshop

We finished up our Itty Bitty Bio's this week.

Social/Emotional Learning - Life Skills

This week we discussed what it means to be patient. MANY of us are having to be patient while waiting for our spring break adventures to begin.

Social Studies/Science

This week we finished my favorite science unit HABITATS! We learned all about the mountains and Antarctica.

End of Day:

If your students end of day plans change you must send me and email by 3:00 the day of or I will proceed with their usual pick up plan. Please do not sent this information verbally through your student.

SNACK DONATIONS

We need April donations please!! Popular items have been cheese its, fruit snacks, z bars, bananas and clementines! You can also look at our Amazon wish list for ideas. Please send in after spring break.

From past newsletters....

Class books

These books will are making their way to each of your homes. When a large manila envelope comes home in your littles backpack please read through the book together and return the next school day. If you would like to leave a book review on a class book that comes home. Please attach a post it note to the large envelope. The littles love to hear what you think of their creations :) 

Computers

 Please be sure to send the computer FULLY charged each day. We will be using them daily. Please also send the charger. I am not supplied a classroom charger.

Kriletown Adventures - Week 27 Kensington Trip Week

Welcome to week twenty seven of Kriletown News.  No progress reports/Friday folders this week or next. Report cards will be sent March 21st. No newsletter this week rather just important upcoming information and Kensington details.

Important Dates

  • Friday, March 14 - Field Trip to Kensington Metro Park 9:30-2:30 See below for details.

  • Reading Month Spirit Week March 17-21

  • Monday 3/17 - Wear a shirt or hat with words

  • Tuesday 3/18 - Bring a small stuffy to read with

  • Wednesday 3/19 - Wear workout gear

  • Thursday 3/20 - Dress like a favorite book character

  • Friday 3/21 - Wear pajamas

  • Friday, March 21 - Report Cards sent home

Kensington Info

1. All parent background checks cleared so if you volunteered to attend the trip with us please sign in at the office, get a name tag and meet us outside in the hall way of  room 241 no later than 9:15 Friday.

2. Reminder we are a NUT free classroom and this includes student and parent lunches. We have severe allergies and will be continuing to use all of the same precautions we do in school.

3. This trip goes rain or shine. The forecast as of now says high of 65 degrees with no chance of rain but if that changes we are still a go. We will be outside the majority of the day so please send your student in appropriate clothing for the weather.

4. Everyone should bring a water bottle including those who are getting a school lunch.

I will be posting pictures from the trip on Instagram Friday evening.

Donations Needed for upcoming project

When we return from spring break the kids and I will start a new unit on citizenship. We are in need of a few more trade books to help make this unit the best it can be. If you would like to donate please go to the  Kriletown wishlist here and look for the I AM series by Susan Verde. Thank you!!

Welcome to week twenty six of Kriletown News. Here is a look into our adventures this week.

Curriculum

Word Work

This week we continued work with r-controlled vowels ir and ur. Our heart words this week were nothing, other, another, and brother.  These are words that do not follow traditional spelling rules. Our FANCY vocabulary words were ’reinforce, ’amplify', 'choreographer' and ’attach’. 

Reading

This week we met several new authors Arnold Lobel, Doreen Cronin, Laura Numeroff and Nick Butterwork. All have written fantastic series for first graders. This week we also continue reading the Itty Bitty Bio series. 

Math

We have reviewed doubles facts and learned how doubles facts can help us with other math facts. We used the 100's chart to solved addition and subtraction problems, reviewed shapes and telling time to the hour and half hour.

Writer’s Workshop

We continue to work on our Itty Bitty Bio's this week.

Social/Emotional Learning - Life Skills

This week we discussed what it means to be supportive. We discussed how important it is to lend a hand to others when we can. We also discussed when making a bid decision we should stop, breath, think then act.

Social Studies/Science

This week we continue to work on my favorite science unit HABITATS! We learned all about the wetlands

School Stuff:


KENSINGTON FIELD TRIP: 

If you have not returned your students signed permission slip you must do so Monday! This is a full day outdoor trip. I can not take your child unless I have a signed permission slip. 

Your student will need to bring a packed lunch INCLUDING a water bottle.  We will be leaving Logan at about 9:30 and returning about 2:30. Be sure you send your child in appropriate clothing for a day spent outdoors. 

If you have volunteered to attend the trip you must fill out the background check by Monday, March 10. No forms will be excepted after Monday.

Reminder no siblings may attend the trip.
