Curriculum
Word Work
This week we worked on -less and -ful while continuing to work with vowel teams daily. Our heart words this week were round, from, their and open. These are words that do not follow traditional spelling rules. Our FANCY vocabulary words were ’astounding', ’coach', 'popular' and ’empty'.
Reading
This week we read books about friendship, the love of books, being brave and kindness.
Math
We read and created bar graphs, tally graphs and picture graphs this week. We reviewed all the skills we have learned so far this year to rock our NWEA.
Writer’s Workshop
We started our end of the year memory books this week.
Social/Emotional Learning - Life Skills
This week we discussed what it means to forgive. We discussed how forgiveness is such an important part of being a good human.
Social Studies/Science
This week we continue to study the sun, the rocky and gas planets.
Health
Part of health in first grade is discussing what to do in an emergency. This week we discussed calling 911. I shared with your students a time last summer I had to call for ambulance after my mum fell (she is fine she had just had a knee replacement and we were being very cautious). I stressed to your littles that calling 911 should be the adults job but if ever the adult is the one hurt then need to know how. Please practice with your students your phone number and address!! They should be able to give this information to a trusted adult in times of emergency.
