Curriculum
Word Work
Writing should not stop over the summer. A great way to keep your littles phonics skills sharp is keeping a summer adventures diary. Your students have already been introduced to a diary and understand the idea is to record events both big and small and how they felt about them. This could be done as a family activity a few days a week or before bed. Your littles are bringing home a notebook with plenty of blank pages.
Reading
Your children have made AMAZING progress as readers this year. Each of your children selected six books from the Logan givaway. Weekly trips to the library are a great family outing. I HIGHLY encourage you to snuggle up each day and read to your little one. Popular series this year have been....
*Fancy Nancy
*Henry and Mudge
*Mr Putter and Tabby
*Zoe and Sassafras
* Ada Twist Scientist (and all of her friends)
*Franklin
*Frog and Toad
*The Teacher From the Black Lagoon
*Arthur
*ANYTHING by Moe Willems
*Itty Bitty Bios and Ordinary People Change the World
*Magic Tree House Series
*Yasmin Series
*Pedro Series
*Katie Woo Series
*Ivy and Been Series
Math
Try and work numbers into your daily fun. When your little is helping set the table ask questions like "We need five forks, five spoons and five knives. How many utensils in all?" When you are in stores point out the prices of items and have your little practice paying when you are using cash. Work time and clock reading in whenever you can. Your students have brought home a packet of number puzzles fun for rainy days.
Writer’s Workshop
Your little will be receiving happy mail during the summer. Have them write me back!
Social/Emotional Learning - Life Skills
Summer is a wonderful time for your little to have new adventures both big and small. Encourage them to play outside, dig in the dirt, go off of the high dive at the pool, check out a challenging book at the library. Encourage them to BE BRAVE!! Play is the work of children!
