Curriculum

Word Work

This week we started work with vowel teams au, aw, augh. Our heart words this week were said, look, what, and month.  These are words that do not follow traditional spelling rules. Our FANCY vocabulary words were ’translate', ’disappointed', 'adventure' and ’unique’.

Reading

This week we read books identifying the problem and solution. We continue to work on reading with expression. We were introduces to several new book series just right for first graders. Series to look for this summer at the library are.... Magic Tree House by Mary Pope Osborn, Ivy and Bean by Annie Barrows, Annie and Snowball, Mr Putter and Tabby, Henry and Mudge all by Cynthia Rylant.

Math

We worked with missing addends, created bar graphs and counted money this week. Coach Natalie taught us four new games to practice working with missing addends.

Writer’s Workshop

We started continue to work on several opinion projects this week.

Social/Emotional Learning - Life Skills

As we approach the end of the year special events will change some of our days. For this reason we worked on going with the flow this week. It is important to teach young children how to deal with changes in daily schedules. It is important to give children the tools they need to roll with things when life throws a curve ball.

Social Studies/Science

This week we started our science unit biomimicry.

School Stuff:

Donations

We have two special projects coming up. If you are able I am asking each family to donate $5 to cover the cost of materials. You are more than welcome to send cash in your student or venmo me at @kkrile

Field Trip

We will be heading to Pioneer High School to visit the planetarium on Thursday, May 8th. Permission slips will come home in next week's Friday folder.

Water Bottles

Please send your student to school each day with a water bottle. If you are unable to provide this please contact me and I will see that one is provided for your child from the office.

Bedtime

As spring brings more day light and sports activities it is important to stick with a consistent  bedtime for your little. We still have lots of learning to do in first grade and that does not happen when children are tired and cranky. When your child falls asleep in class they are missing important instruction.

End of Day

If your students end of day plans change you must send me and email by 3:00 the day of or I will proceed with their usual pick up plan. Please do not sent this information verbally through your student.

SNACK DONATIONS

We need April donations please!! Popular items have been cheese its, fruit snacks, z bars, bananas and clementines! You can also look at our Amazon wish list for ideas.

From past newsletters....

Computers

Please be sure to send the computer FULLY charged each day. We will be using them daily. Please also send the charger. I am not supplied a classroom charger.
