Happy New Year!! Welcome to week eighteen of Kriletown News.
As a reward for such a wonderful first week back together the kids and I are going to have a jammie/lovie day this Friday, January 10th For those who want to participate please send your little in warm cozy pajamas with their favorite lovie (the lovie MUST fit in a backpack). Slippers and robes are also welcome. Keep in mind the temps are going to be COLD Friday so send in winter gear for recess and gym shoes for gym.

Curriculum
Word Work
This week we worked with -ed and -ing at the end of words. We learned all about verbs as action words. We reviewed blends at the beginning of words. Our heart words this week were am, just, any, many and been. These are words that do not follow traditional spelling rules. Our FANCY vocabulary words were ’empathy', ’embarrassed', ‘fascinating', 'and ’sibling’.
Reading
This week we started a study of nonfiction. We will be learning the key text features of a non-fiction book and begin to write our own. We also enjoyed books with silly holiday themes. We learned all about National Bubble Bath Day, National Law Enforcement Appreciation and National Save the Eagles Day.
Math
We celebrated the 80 day of school. We worked with sums of 10, place value, even and odd as well as created a bar graph.
Writer’s Workshop
We brainstormed ideas for our informational reports.
Social/Emotional Learning - Life Skills
This week we discussed how our classroom is like a family. We compared the rules of home with the rules of school and discussed why they are different. We discussed kindness, respect and empathy for one another.
Social Studies/Science
Class books
These books will are making their way to each of your homes. When a large manila envelope comes home in your littles backpack please read through the book together and return the next school day. If you would like to leave a book review on a class book that comes home. Please attach a post it note to the large envelope. The littles love to hear what you think of their creations :)
