Word Work

This week we worked on -er and -est while continuing to work with vowel teams daily. We learned about kn, wr, and mb words. Our heart words this week were come, didn't, could, them, know and good.  These are words that do not follow traditional spelling rules. Our FANCY vocabulary words were ’absorb', ’fiesta', 'strenuous' and ’repair'.

When working with your little at home and your child asks how to spell a word it is much more beneficial to stretch out the sounds in the word and let your little write what he/she hears. For example shut would look like.....sh....u...t. Then say the word again.

Reading

This week we read the Memoir  series by local newscaster Devin Scillian. We will be writing our own books patterned after these great stories.

Math

We spent time with 3D shapes, two digit addition and fractions this week. We learned about 1/2 and 1/4 also known as a quarter.

Writer’s Workshop

This week I taught the kids how to write a persuasive letters. Each of your children wrote a letter to me trying to persuade me to do something for the class. It looks like we are going to be having a popcorn party, pj day and a few other fun filled days this May. More to come on these special events.

Social/Emotional Learning - Life Skills

This week we discussed what it means to be encouraging. We learned that we need to surround ourselves with people that build us up and cheer us on. We also need to be cheerleaders for those we love.
